"Kaitlyn"
21" doll

Cloth Doll Making Class

by Gail Kellison
Gail's Stitch N' Splinter Patterns

Once you learn to make Kaitlyn, you may never want to make a doll any other way!

There are so many new things for you to learn in this class.    The first thing you will do is to find a whole new use for panty hose.   One pair of Panty hose is what we will make her head and hands with.  Just regular panty hose.   They don't even have to be the ones that have spandex in them. Just plain panty hose like most of us normally wear.

We will use buttons for her eyes and add eyelashes for even more dimension to her character. You will then learn how to do soft sculpting.   No two soft sculpted dolls ever turn out exactly the same.   As you manipulate the fabric, each doll will come alive in a special way.   She will develop her own personality.   They will all resemble Kaitlyn, but they will also have a personality all their own.

Her hair can be done in many ways and I leave that up to you.  You can use fake fur, yarn,
a long doll wig or anything you like to put on your dolls.   You can even use a synthetic
adult's wig and make a doll wig from it.

As a Special Bonus with this class, I give instructions for creating a
doll wig from an adult's synthetic wig. Wigs can be found at thrift stores or garage sales and are very reasonably priced. You may even have one laying around that you don't wear anymore.

Kaitlyn's clothes are her body.   We will make them and stuff them. The new technique that I have used creates the body in a sitting position.

The class contains 12 chapters with many actual pictures for making this doll. Everything is done step by step with pictures to show the steps.   The patterns pieces are full size. No enlarging or reducing to do.    A few are large and  in order to make them print out on regular 8-1/2" x 11" paper, I have had to separate them.  Each pattern that I have separated, is clearly marked as to what pattern it needs to be taped to before cutting the fabric.

You will find this doll challenging,  but she isn't difficult.   The most important thing you must
be able to do is to use a tape measure.   We will use the tape measure a lot when we are preparing to sculp the face.

If you are wanting to move on to something a little different, a little more challenging, and a whole lot of fun, then a doll like Kaitlyn is just what you are looking for!
